WHAT’S IT ABOUT
In the sleepy small town of Centerville, something is not quite right. The moon hangs large and low in the sky, the hours of daylight are becoming unpredictable, and animals are beginning to exhibit unusual behaviors. News reports are scary, and scientists are concerned, but no one foresees the strangest and most dangerous repercussion that will soon start plaguing Centerville: the dead rise from their graves and feast on the living, and the citizens must battle to survive.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
BILL MURRAY IS NOT FUNNY!! I remember loving Bill as a kid, but then again, when I was a pre-teen, Porky’s (I had to sneak in) was the funniest movie ever, and Star Wars (1977) was loaded with action. Either I was a very dumb, easily impressed kid or there was nothing truly good for adolescents. I do still enjoy Scrooged, Ghostbusters, and Groundhogs Day, but that might all be feelings of nostalgia. He’s the same character in EVERY movie. That might work for some actors, but after a while it gets old, and it’s not funny anymore. Other actors that have overused their gimmick include Adam Sandler, Pauly Shore, Craig Robinson, Ben Stiller, Seth Rogan, it’s a long, long list. Mr. Murray has done other types of movies, so why does he feel he needs to fall back on this type of deadpan comedy. Usually, that would not be a major concern, but having every important character deliver their lines in a straightlaced manner without an over-the-top partner to play off of, is the real problem. The Dead Don’t Die is suppose to be a somewhat entertaining zombie film, but actually, it’s just a waste of nearly 2-hours. Every actor delivers their lines as if they just make them up. If the director/writer wanted an improved film, he should have gotten the cast of Curb Your Enthusiasm. None of the actors in this film are any good at improvisation, and it shows. Every joke fell flat considering most of them flew over the heads of the audience unless they were zombie movie nerds AND were familiar with the comedic style of Bill Murray. As I stated earlier, Bill’s style is waaaay past its shelf life but if you’re feeling nostalgic and you want to know what a responsible adult version of John Winger (Stripes) or Tripper (Meatballs) would be like, this movie is for you.
