WHAT’S IT ABOUT
In 1970s Los Angeles, the legendary ghost La Llorona is stalking the night — and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother, a social worker, and her own kids are drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope of surviving La Llorona’s deadly wrath is a disillusioned priest who practices mysticism to keep evil at bay.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
I’m not a big fan of the Conjuring series and The Curse of La Llorona will make sure I stay that way. This movie tries too hard to explain a story that isn’t there. La Llorona is Mexican folklore that this movie actually explains step by step. Then it immediately destroys the story by putting La Llorona in Los Angeles, not being at a lake, and following children wherever they go. So other than the story being too stupid to capture your imagination, it drags along unnecessarily. Let me re-type that. It’s a very VERY S-L-O-O-O-W MOVIE. And just like all the other dumb-ass horror films, they have dumb-ass people doing dumb-ass things and nobody is shocked when they get their dumb-ass killed. There were even attempts at humor but the jokes were so out of place, it made the movie worse. They changed La Llorona’s region of abduction, they should have at least upped the intelligence of the victims and included law enforcement. Finally, The Curse of La Llorona is a well-acted, poorly written film that should have been based in Mexico for better credibility. Sadly, it’s another Hollywood whitewash with changes only put there to appease the White populous.
