Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls.
MOVIESinMO Review
It may be called Captain Marvel but the real star was Nick Fury. After a very long and calculated wait, it’s here. This is the origin of Captain Marvel but it’s actually so much more. This film has to be the savior of the entire franchise. This is the movie that gets them out of the corner they’ve written themselves into. So did they do what they said they would? Are all your questions answered? Can the franchise continue after this? Yes, no, and no. They made the film they promised all those years ago. A new movie only creates new questions. The MCU will continue BUT will need to go in a different direction. As for Captain Marvel, it is a good, NOT great movie. The main reason – Brie Larson. Captain Marvel, according to the comics and the animated versions, should have a strong sense of self and sassy with a powerful “take the lead” attitude. In this movie, Ver (the name she goes by), questions everything about herself. She’s not sure about her past, present or future. This is normal behavior for what Ver went through and I wouldn’t complain but BRIE LARSON is the worst actress for this character. It was like looking at a preschooler in a high school play. If not for Samuel L Jackson, this film would have sucked. You would still be able to watch it but it would be very hard without Fury. Actually, every actor is better than the main star. Even the cat is better than Brie. Finally, should you see this movie? Yes. It’s a good movie loaded with the kind of action you have come to expect in a Marvel movie. The story could have been better considering all the changes made to keep people from comparing it to the comics. It’s slow in parts and feels unevenly stitched together but that’s the origin curse. Don’t forget this is a Marvel movie so don’t leave until you see ALL post-credit scenes.
