WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Collegian Tree Gelbman wakes up in horror to learn that she’s stuck in a parallel universe. Her boyfriend Carter is now with someone else, and her friends and fellow students seem to be completely different versions of themselves. When Tree discovers that Carter’s roommate has been altering time, she finds herself once again the target of a masked killer. When the psychopath starts to go after her inner circle, Tree soon realizes that she must die over and over again to save everyone.
MOVIESinMO Review
I didn’t think it was possible but they made a part two for the “horror” version of Groundhogs Day. Happy Death Day 2U picks up where the last film left off, the next day, Tuesday, September 19th. So what’s the big deal this time considering she broke the loop and ended the curse. This time it’s Carter’s friend Ryan that assumedly creates the repetition of the day Tree ended a day ago. Once Tree explains the situation to her boyfriend Carter and his roommate Ryan, she starts to realize things are different. This is where the cheesy part happens. Ryan, Carter, and the rest of his close friends take about five minutes to explain what they think has happened. So instead of repeating what they did in the first movie, the writers decided to go with a parallel universe. It’s the new thing all the time altering movies will be doing this year. Now that the reason for everything has been told, the rest of the film is filled with attempts at correcting the paradox or parallel or time loop all while trying to find out who the new babyface mask killer is. And like the first film, continually repeating the same day while trying to make corrections along the way were the best parts and the only reason this series has such an appeal. In the end, Happy Death Day 2U adds a few more elements to keep you guessing without affecting the fun of watching Tree die in some very creative and sometimes hilarious ways.
