A young woman battles a ruthless drug cartel to save her kidnapped friend in Mexico.

MOVIESinMO Review

I am so disappointed with this movie. They took a great film and stripped it down to nothing. Gina Rodriguez is Gloria Fuentes a California makeup artist wanting her big break as a professional. When she decides to visit her best friend Suzu in Tijuana, Mexico, they talk and act like they haven’t seen each other in years. After that, they go to a club and this is when the action starts. So, I’ve had to sit through over fifty minutes and there has been nothing but talk, talk, and more talk until the club they go to is raided. And what do you think happened next. A complete mashup of information and a harsh introduction to the world of human trafficking. At this point, the movie becomes horribly uncomfortable as Gloria is treated like a pimps bottom bitch. The story is so weak, it’s painfully obvious the writer needed filler and thought it was a good idea to add unrelated scenes just to make the movie longer and help build-up to one of the weakest endings ever. Gina Rodriguez’s talent is wasted just as much as the rest of the cast in this awfully scripted film that couldn’t figure out if it wanted to be a drama, thriller, or an action movie. In the end, besides the horrible, reality of human trafficking, the only thing I learned from this movie was don’t trust authority figures, but as a Black man, I already knew that.
