What’s It About
Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
I can’t believe they remade this movie so close to the release of the first one, but I am happy they did. THE Suicide Squad is a complete reimagining of the unique (and secret) government agency headed by the brash Intelligence officer Amanda Waller. This time around, she’s in control of more than fifteen supervillains, with Col. Rick Flag leading them on the ground. If you saw the 2019 Suicide Squad, you are already familiar with Amanda’s bomb in the base of the skull control tactics. Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag, and Harley Quinn are the only returning characters. That’s a good thing since the DC universe doesn’t have a shortage of villains. It wasn’t that hard to choose other dangerously deranged criminals. The ones they did choose range from ridiculous to extraordinary, with powers that match. As for the story, the best part was assembling the team and seeing how well they would work together. The mission – infiltrate the South American island nation of Corto Maltese and destroy a Nazi-era laboratory called Jötunheim containing a giant starfish from space, aptly named Starro the Conqueror. Everything about this comic-book-based film was great. It was gruesome but funny and action-packed but easy to follow. It’s rated “R,” and nearly every character reminds you why because there was no holding back when someone wanted to speak their mind. The Suicide Squad was directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), and he does not disappoint. He was able to get the most out of every character that had anything to offer. Even the command center had a more integral part than what the first film had. Last thing – you may instinctively become attached to a few of the highly dangerous criminals, but don’t forget they’re called The Suicide Squad for a reason, so don’t expect everyone to make it.
