WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Video game bad guy Ralph and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz must risk it all by traveling to the World Wide Web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, “Sugar Rush.” In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet — the netizens — to help navigate their way, including an entrepreneur named Yesss, who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site BuzzzTube.
MoviesInMo Review
This is not a standalone film. It can be seen without knowing the first story, but you will definitely be at a loss with most of this movie if you do not. That’s not a bad thing since this movie is very entertaining, but that’s all it is. Everything is done half-assed, and therefore this movie has no real direction other than “Let’s show the world we can animate every current pop culture reference.” They even put Mr. Cameo, Stan Lee in it. So If that’s what you want to see, this film is the answer. Wreck-It Ralph 2, has multiple scenes for the internet babies to drool over as it becomes more of “Hey there’s that girl from the internet,” and less of “Let’s help Ralph and Vanellope get that missing piece.” Even I started pointing out pop references after our two “heroes” made it to the internet because, let’s face it, there’s no real heart in this film and if Disney went through the trouble of getting permission from so many companies (Google, Pinterest, etc.), I might as well enjoy the visuals. So, is it better than the first one? Not by a long shot. Without the “heart” of the original, Ralph Breaks the Internet is just 2-hours of near senseless humor. So, is it worth seeing? Of course, it’s a fun film that will keep the kids (and adults) entertained, and that’s ultimately all it was intended to do.
