What’s It About

Oscar-winner Jolie (“Girl, Interrupted,” the “Maleficent” films) stars as Hannah, a smoke jumper still reeling from the loss of three lives she failed to save from a fire when she comes across a traumatized 12-year-old boy with nowhere else to turn. He is a murder witness who finds himself pursued by twin assassins in the Montana wilderness. Hannah is tasked with protecting him within a forest fire threatening to consume them all.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW

Another film where Angelina Jolie gets to do something dangerous. That seems to be the type of roles she loves (Wanted, Tomb Raider, Mr. and Mrs. Smith). This time she’s a devastated smoke jumper named Hannah, unable to get over the loss of a coworker. Those Who Wish Me Dead is a strange title, and any average person would want to know why it’s called that. Well, whoever wrote this movie, went through a lot of setups simply to place Hannah in a situation that would put her in an element she’s skilled at. The film’s opening scenes are rather eye-opening and give you the sense that this will be an exciting and thrill-filled piece of cinema, and at times, it was. The other times it was a problematic drama that turned into a slow-moving thriller. As I stated, Hannah has some past issues to work through, but that’s an unnecessary story. The real story involves a boy named Conner. Two very determined killers hunt him because of what they think he knows AND because he saw them kill someone. The other story is about the sheriff, but that’s there to help with the ending. As for the finale, they threw so much into it, it became an action movie for the last twenty minutes. Overall, the story is simple but interesting and predictable but worth a watch at home. The movie’s mediocrity makes me wonder why anyone would go to a theater for this. It’s, at best, a slight step above a made-for-TV movie.
