While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers, and music lovers to this day.
MoviesInMo Review
Another biopic about an artist that did some outrageous things. That’s the only way to get a movie made about you. You’ll never see a film about a successful entertainer with no issues. We all want to see the rich and famous fall from grace. We need to believe their life is so much worse than ours no matter how much money they have. Bohemian Rhapsody is that film. It gives us an insight into the short life of Freddie Mercury and his band Queen, but mainly Freddie. If you’re a fan of Queen, you might get a little upset by the lack of information or the misinformation of certain dates. For the average fan, it’s near perfect. You get a glimpse into Freddie’s upbringing, you find out what his real name is, and how he became the lead singer of an already established band. One part they glossed over was his sexuality. The first time we see Freddie, he has a very flamboyant attitude, but yet his sexual preference was never fully explained even though throughout the whole film they made sure to show him acting and sounding very stereotypically gay. The music was great, but you never get a real taste of how great it is because they keep focusing on his sexuality. Honestly, there was nothing bad enough for Hollywood to make an interesting Queen movie and that’s why a lot of facts were changed or completely made up just to make the movie more interesting. By doing this, Bohemian Rhapsody falls flat on substance and feels more like a 2-hour commercial to help sell albums. This is a good movie, but it could have been great if they would have stuck to the facts. Also, the quality of the film has a 90’s feel and look to it. You would think with a $52 million budget, Fox could have done a better job.
