WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Asher is a former Mossad agent turned gun-for-hire, living an austere life in an ever-changing Brooklyn. Approaching the end of his career, he breaks the oath he took as a young man when he meets Sophie on a hit gone wrong. In order to have love in his life before it’s too late, he must kill the man he was, for a chance at becoming the man he wants to be.
MOVIESinMO Review
Most movies that feature hitmen, make that life seem so very interesting and exciting. Asher shows you the part you hardly ever see. Ron Perlman is Asher, a hitman at the end of his “career”. Using the advice from his tailor, he accidentally gets involved with a young lady at a hit gone awry. Asher is a very slow-moving action movie and once that lady is introduced, it becomes a very slow moving romantic drama. Although it started off interesting, it still needed help and when the lady came into the picture, it got worse. This film is all over the place. The entire time I watched this mess, I had to continually guess what was happening or try and read their minds since the dialog was missing a few adjectives and adverbs. I really like Ron Perlman but a lot of his films make him into someone that just talks a lot about nothing while promising everything. As Asher, he barely talks. He moves around brooding and feeling sorry for himself. Apparently, that doesn’t work for him either. I guess Mr. Perlman is still upset for not being Hellboy in the 2019 reboot. If they were to judge you on Asher, you’ll never get be Hellboy or be in any blockbusters ever again. Hey Ron, you’re a great actor, next time read the script BEFORE you agree to do the movie.
