MOVIESinMO REVIEW
The idea of time loops in movies probably started with an Asian film but American likes to refer to Groundhogs Day as the one that started it all. Regardless of who you give credit to, the idea has spread. Boss Level is the second film this year to tackle the time-loop concept. Frank Grillo plays Roy Pulver, An ex-special forces agent. He lives the same day over and over. And every day, an assassin kills him. It has happened so often, he can usually avoid the first three or four assassination attempts. In addition to going a little further or living a little longer, he narrates nearly every action, making the film more fun than most in this genre’. The action is nonstop since every attempt to try and end his situation helps him get a little further by memorizing and altering the next step. As the story progresses, we discover a little more about his dilemma, including who might want him dead and why he’s stuck in a time loop. The road to finding that information is filled with the most action-packed gruesome yet comical death I’ve seen in a long time. Boss Level never takes itself too seriously as it basically makes fun of the entire time loop theory. Before the movie ends, you learn the deeper meaning behind the loop and what Roy is willing to do to stop it.
