When the system shields the murderers from justice, Riley sets out to transform herself from citizen to urban guerrilla. Channeling frustration into motivation, the young widow spends years in hiding — honing her mind, body, and spirit to become an unstoppable force. Eluding the underworld, the police, and the FBI, Riley embarks on a deadly quest to deliver her own personal brand of punishment.

MoviesInMo Review

Another revenge movie and that’s ok if it’s good. Fortunately, Peppermint IS a good (not great) movie. Riley North (Jennifer Garner), is a badass and does what we all would like to do – get righteous revenge when the system fails us. After the brutal drive-by shooting of her husband and child, Riley wakes up in the hospital having been wounded during the same attack. An officer lets her know that they have the men responsible, but she has to ID them that day or they walk. You know from the trailer she fingered all three (the driver and 2 shooters), went to court but had the case thrown out for lack of evidence. She was also offered money to drop the charges and “walk away.” These types of actions by a multitude of legal professionals and officers of different branches gave Riley that extra push to take the law into her own hands. She falls off the grid and resurfaces five years later and starts hunting down and killing the corruption that killed her family and her belief in our system. Peppermint is a one-hundred percent revenge movie, and that’s all it promises to be. Is the story cliché’, of course, IT’S A STORY OF REVENGE. It’s John Wick, it’s Kill Bill, it’s Gladiator, The Equalizer, Oldboy, Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, pick one. The things that set Peppermint apart from the others are the people she killed and why. Our country has seen a lot of unnecessary killing in the last ten years, and this movie is a direct spawn of it. There’s real corruption from the streets to the White House and a lot of citizens in the United States wish they could do more legally than just protest. For all the families that have lost someone to violence, myself included, it felt good to see true payback – not just jail time. For those that were getting tired of seeing costumed vigilantes as the only ones to take action, this film is for you. For those that just want to see a good action movie with a female lead, this is for you. If done right, Peppermint could be a really good franchise similar to Mission Impossible in 1996. And just like that Tom Cruise movie, there were tons of negative reviews. The rating for the first one only improved because the rest of the franchise was so great.
