WHAT’S IT ABOUT
While scavenging for copper wire, Detroit teenager Eli Solinski stumbles upon a high-tech gun that holds special powers. When his brother, Jimmy, lands in trouble with a local crime boss, the two siblings take the mysterious weapon and go on the run. Eli and Jimmy now find themselves in a life-and-death battle against an army of thugs and two heavily armored, futuristic soldiers who want their gun back.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
I saw this movie without any expectations other than what the trailers show. The trailer gives us the impression that a young Black kid found a super gun-like weapon and has to save his Caucasian older brother. There are some chase scenes, and a lot of people trying to get Elijah and the weapon he found. This all turns out to be true once you see the movie, but it’s not worth it. First, Elijah doesn’t find the superweapon until about thirty minutes in. Second, the director wants us to feel empathy for the three main characters, Elijah, his father Hal, and his brother Jimmy. And third, the importance of family. This movie sucked on all three. Yes, he found a weapon, but he never used it like a kid that just found a superweapon should. Yes, the main characters were introduced. The father was tough because the world is tough. The older son is bad news, but Elijah is never fully understood until the end of the film. This is a near 2-hour movie and an hour of it is wasted on the slowest, weakest, and dumbest storyline they could show. This is also one of the few films you want to see the villain. The crime lord, Taylor and his gang are the best parts (besides Elijah using that “gun”) of the movie. The last 15 minutes explains everything, but it’s too little and far too late to make up for the first 90 minutes of crap you’ve got to sit through to get there.
