MOVIESinMO REVIEW
We’ve all seen movies where actors play themselves. Nick Cage has always been an insane type of actor, so this movie just feels right for someone like him. The film starts with Nick being full of himself but in desperate need of that unique role that will put him back on top. Ultimately, after hitting rock bottom and with the advice of his agent, played by Neil Patrick Harris, Cage accepts a one million dollar offer to show up at a fan’s birthday party on a remote island. The journey up to this point was one of the wildest things I’ve seen. Adding to the craziness was an amped-up Wild At Heart version of Cage. The fan who requested his presence was just as weird as Mr. Cage but in a more extreme fan type of way. As things started to play out, once on the island, it got more insane. Nick was still hallucinating without drugs. The fan was a bit more than just a fan. The CIA got involved, and people were kidnapped, shot at, and given impossible ultimatums. There were drugs, but that’s a whole nother thing. Overall, The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent is a great film, but an even better Nick Cage movie. Why? Because it’s not like everything else, it’s well-acted, and Cage is one of the few actors that can make fun of himself without worrying about his “star” reputation. He treats it like what it is – a job, and after this movie, he deserves a pay raise.
