What’s It About
“The Bob’s Burgers Movie” is an animated, big-screen, musical comedy-mystery-adventure based on the long-running Emmy®-winning series. The story begins when a ruptured water main creates an enormous sinkhole right in front of Bob’s Burgers, blocking the entrance indefinitely and ruining the Belchers’ plans for a successful summer. While Bob and Linda struggle to keep the business afloat, the kids try to solve a mystery that could save their family’s restaurant. As the dangers mount, these underdogs help each other find hope and fight to get back behind the counter, where they belong.
MOVIESinMO REVIEW
After eleven years, Bob’s Burgers finally gets a movie released in theaters. Unfortunately, the film does nothing to add to the dynamic of the television series. The South Park feature gave insight into the boys’ foul mouths. The Simpsons movie ostracized and kicked the titular family out of town. The Bob’s Burgers Movie is precisely the same as the tv show, but with a lot more singing. Every genuinely successful film version of an animated show improves on the original. It seems like Bob’s Burgers is relying solely on its cultish popularity. That’s not entirely a bad thing, but it should not have been a theatrical release. The story starts with the Bob and Linda Belcher worrying about a payment to the bank. Then a colossal sinkhole appears in front of Bob’s restaurant. Lastly, an adult mystery falls on the Belcher kids to solve. Throughout the film, they sing as if it’s a stage musical. If you regularly watch the show, you know what it’s like when they burst into song. Only this time, they ramped it up way past ten. The dance numbers were huge, and a few performances lasted so long that they became awkward to watch. Since this is a movie, I expected to see most of the characters from the show. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your taste), they only focused on the Belchers with very few additional characters from the show like Teddy and Mr. Fischoeder. As I stated earlier, there’s nothing in or about this movie to justify its big-budget release. It is worth seeing, just not at a theater price.
