Sicario: Day Of The Soldado

What’s It About

In Sicario: Day of the Soldado, the series begins a new chapter. In the drug war, there are no rules – and as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) calls on the mysterious Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), whose family was murdered by a cartel kingpin, to escalate the war in nefarious ways. Alejandro kidnaps the kingpin’s daughter to inflame the conflict – but when the girl is seen as collateral damage, her fate will come between the two men as they question everything they are fighting for.

MOVIESinMO REVIEW

The sequel to the 2015 movie Sicario is much of the same at a much slower pace. There was definitely something missing, and I’m not sure what it was, but it just seemed like the actors didn’t want to be there. Like the film before it, the pace is slow, and the action is far and few between. The main problem is how slow everything started considering we knew everyone’s objectives and their personalities from the first film. Also, the chemistry between the characters was lacking. Everyone acted like they had a chip on his or her shoulder, and there was no real direction. The first movie was about drugs and drug lords. This one is about human trafficking and what seems like the kidnapping of a young girl. Emily Blunt’s character is sorely missed since she had the only real emotions anybody cared about. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin are cold and unlikable as they walk around with an undeserved sense of entitlement. Besides the few action scenes, Sicario: Day of the Soldado was a boring movie that felt more like a PBS documentary before the editing process. The first film only had one thing going for it, and SHE was nowhere to be found in this one. Apparently, someone thought the two male leads with no people skills would make a great movie. They were wrong, so very, very wrong.
