MOVIESinMO REVIEW
This is one of those movies where the trailer is better. Hypnotic has an interesting story and plot, but it would take a very, very talented actor with more than two facial expressions to pull it off. From the cryptic trailers, you think Danny (Ben Affleck) has been hypnotized into thinking everyone is after him. The truth is far more twisted than that. Danny is a detective investigating strange occurrences by seemingly average individuals. He’s also mourning the loss of his daughter and wife. The more he finds out, the weirder the story gets. Then there’s a psychic named Diana that ultimately tries to help him. This is where the (still boring) story gains a purpose to exist. She not only fills in the missing blanks of information but she also extends the story by adding more stories. Rather you think her additional story is worth it, depends solely on your personal BS meter. I called BS at about thirty minutes in. If you do plan on staying and dealing with Affleck’s blasé attitude, the whole story comes together in the last fifteen minutes. And it’s the only redeeming thing in this ninety-minute waste of time.
